The famous author Theodor Fontane brought into prominence the small village of Ribbeck situated in the Havelland region. It all began with his poem “Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland”, telling the story about the nobleman Ribbeck who gave away free pears from his garden tree to children. Today, a replacement planting of the legendary pear tree grows right next to a church from 1722. After extensive reconstruction work, the palace reopened in July 2009. Together with the palace, the restored church can be found in the heart of the village. As a centre of culture in the region, Ribbeck receives visitors from every corner of the world and appeals with a great variety of concerts and exhibitions. Worth a visit are the school “Alte Schule”, today accommodating a café, a historic classroom, a bike rental place and the tourist information. Other worthwhile attractions include the church, the legendary Pear Tree, the parsonage´s barn and garden, the distillery “Alte Brennerei”, the café “Theodor”, the children´s farm “Marienhof” with a maize maze and a barefoot trail. The annual Ribbeck Summer Night features first-class poetry and musical performances.
