The Wietkiekenberg hill is situated between Lienewitz station and the village of Ferch, in the Potsdamer Wald- und Havelseengebiet landscape conservation area. At 124 metres above mean sea level it is the highest point in the Zauche as well as a distinctive landmark in the Havel lake region. It is only possible to climb the hill on foot or by bike. Hiking routes are signposted from Ferch. The observation tower is open around the clock.

The newly constructed tower is not only used for digital radio transmissions and the installation of forest fire surveillance cameras, but also an approximately 22-metre-high covered viewing platform that was opened on April 10, 2015. 113 steps on an angled steel staircase lead up to it. In good conditions it is possible to see as far as Potsdam, the Berlin Television Tower, or the area around Lehnin Monastery.
