Hiking with Kneipp effect
The route is particularly suitable for Kneipp herbal therapy hikers. It is recommended that inexperienced barefoot walkers bring shoes with them. On hot days, the sandy areas in particular can get very hot and shoes may be required to prevent burn blisters. At the start and finish point below Eisenhardt Castle, there is a handle pump where you can cool off and wash your feet.
Route
The Barfusswanderweg (barefoot walking trail) is a circular trail around Bad Belzig. The route is signposted with a green footprint. Eisenhardt Castle is recommended as the starting point. From here, it passes the cemetery and carries on through the former woodland park of what was then the town’s beautification association. The Barfusswanderweg (barefoot walking trail) leads along winding paths down to the castle meadows. The trail then follows the south route of the Kunstwanderweg (art hiking trail) to the artwork "Gartenbild" (Garden Scene). There, it turns right and crosses the federal motorway between Bad Belzig and Wiesenburg. The path then climbs upward along the edge of the forest to the Apfelberg "Höhen" (Heights), a beautiful meadow orchard. At the artwork "Die Jagd" (The Hunt), the Barfusswanderweg (barefoot walking trail) meets the north route of the Kunstwanderweg (art hiking trail) and leads back to Bad Belzig.
Refreshments
Burghotel Bad Belzig, the Chocolateria at the castle and numerous other options in Bad Belzig are recommended for refreshments.
Sights
Sights along the route include Eisenhardt Castle in Bad Belzig, the historic town centre of Bad Belzig and six artworks along the Kunstwanderweg (art hiking trail), as well as the castle meadows and the meadow orchard on Apfelberg.
