The Filmmuseum in Potsdam is the oldest Museum of Film history in Germany.
The permanent exhibition “The Dream Factory – 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg” about the history of the media city in Babelsberg shows the process of filmmaking from the first idea to the first performance in an entertaining and enthralling way. Seven themed rooms present valuable original exhibits, films and stories about filmmakers from 100 years. At interactive modules visitors may witness how to act in a casting and how to cut a film. They may sing with Zarah Leander and rehearse the Filmorchester Babelsberg.Changing exhibitions focus different topics of media work or shine a light on the lives of world-famous actors as Romy Schneider or Charlie Chaplin.
The museum´s cinema offers film series with international guests as well as silent films accompanied with live performances at the Welte cinema organ. The cinema is open on all opening days from 10:00 - 19:00.
Since 1981 the museum resides at the Royal Stables next to Brandenburg´s parliament.
Originally constructed as an orangery and part of the Potsdam City Palace in 1685, the baroque building was often transformed and reused.
The Filmmuseum Potsdam is one of four participating partners offering the MUSEUM combined ticket.
